Over the years, they've been given comic sensibilities, but few look or act like the monsters in "Where the Wilds Things Are," Maurice Sendak's wildly popular children's book that has now been transformed into a wonderfully touching film by Spike Jonze.

That must have been what it felt like when filmmaker Spike Jonze first screened a rough cut of his adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are after shooting the bulk of the film in Australia in 2006 and editing it through much of 2007.
