Gospel duo to recieve state award
Bill and Gloria Gaither will receive Indiana's highest award for their contributions to gospel music.
Gov. Mitch Daniels will present the Sachem (SAY'-chem) award to the Gaithers during a ceremony at the Indiana State Museum on Wednesday.
The Gaithers have won eight Grammy Awards and have collaborated on more than 700 songs. The couple lives in Alexandria, where they have raised three children. Both have long been involved with Anderson University.
Governor Daniels reinstated the Sachem award in 2005. Recent recipients include former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden and former Notre Dame president Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh. Read more

Gospel stars in second Gaither Fest
“I grew up loving gospel four-part harmony, but I thought I should get a day job, so I started teaching school, but we started singing together, and that got it all back into the center of my mind”
Bill and Gloria Gaither were both teaching in a public high school when they met. Gloria was just down the hall from him, teaching French and English, and Bill was teaching English. The couple began having lunch and dating at night; they married in 1962.
Now the Gaithers take their partnership to the next level with Gaither Fest, the second year for the gospel music event hosted by the pair. The event will take place tonight and Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, with concerts at different times over the two days. Read more
