"Must have? Those earning above $18,700 (couples) or $9,350 (singles) must have insurance or pay a 2.5% penalty on income." So who is going to be responsible for POLICING this "proof of insurance"?? At least with MANDATED automobile insurance we know the police have the authority to request "proof of insurance". So who is going to POLICE the "proof of health insurance"?

The IRS is the agency designated in the bill.

Thank you. Just what we need, more IRS snooping into our personal business. This is pathetic and kinda scary giving the IRS more power to make demands on helpless people.

Don't worry, Eleanor, it will only affect FREELOADES.

You're not a FREELOADER, are you?
If not, you will do better.
If so, you will now have to stop sponging off your neighbors.

what a load of horseshit.
first, the $250 billion doctor "payoff" isn't included in the cost.
second, the cost is based on TEN YEARS of taxes, fees and mandates for SIX YEARS of benifits.
third,$400 billion in medicare cuts! and they've got the audacity to say THAT won't dillute care for seniors!
and fourth, this is the SAME government that screwed up with the swine flu vaccine!(good thing they MADE UP the problem in the first place! had it been a REAL pandemic, we'd ALL BE DEAD by now!)

gotta wonder how many of the 220 that voted for this piece of s#it actually read it ...
my guess is NOT ONE! and i'm hoping, next november will see ALL 220 of them joining the 20 million americans out of work!

This is probably the wrong place but can someone nonpartisaningly tell me why those who don't have insurnace WILL HAVE to buy it?

I mean, does Washington believe that no one is capable of taking care of themselves? Or are they hoping to collect that 2.5% tax?

It just doesn't make sense to me. Seems like an asshole thing to do. Force someone to buy something that they may not even need.

No, you are right to ask that.

The underlying problem is that Hospitals must not turn away sick people by law.

Those without insurance REFUSE to take themselves, or their children, out to the woods to die when they get sick.
They persist in showing up at the emergency room for free treatment; (they skip, not paying the bills.)

The Hospitals and doctors refuse to go out of business; and so they find a way to attach the losses associated with the uninsured (FRELOADERS) to the bills of those who do pay theur bills (the insured.) Thus, beds cost $2000./night; and an asprin costs $60/per.

So, Those with insurance see their coverage going ever higher, and ever higher, they eat spaghetti and cheese or peanut butter for dinner; while the uninsured fly to Los Vegas, or Hawaii for vacation, with their now-healthy children.

Meanwhile, our hospitals still cannot pay their bills, so they close, leaving wide areas of the nation with longer and longer trips to more and more crowded hospitals.

That you could assume that the uninsured will "take care of themselves" or that they "may not even need" health insurance; is the root of your ignorance.

The fact is, nobody needs insurance, until they need it.

I'm not ready to live in a country where little 8 year-old Mary must die of a fever because her daddy is a total shitty asshole, like you.

i firmly believe you really are THAT clueless!

if the aclu did what they SAY they stand for, they would be jumping all over the un-constitutionality of the federal government mandating citizens buy health insurance or face fines and/or imprisonment.

Why are you so ignorant?

JAIL FOR NO INSURANCE UNDER PELOSI BILL

The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation reported that the House version of the health care bill specifies that those who don't buy health insurance and do not pay the fine of about 2.5% of their income for failing to do so can face a penalty of up to five years in prison!

The bill describes the penalties as follows:

* Section 7203 - misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

* Section 7201 - felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years." [page 3]

That anyone should face prison for not buying health insurance is simply incredible.

And how much will the stay-out-of-jail insurance cost? The Joint Committee noted that "according to a recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, the lowest-cost family non-group plan under HR 3862 (the Pelosi bill) would cost $15,000 by 2016."

Obama's bill only provides subsidies to help pay this enormous sum after families making about $45,000 have paid 8% of their income for insurance and after those earning a household income of about $65,000 have kicked in 12%.

The Joint Committee on Taxation noted that while the Senate Finance Committee version of the bill did not include criminal penalties, "The House Democrats' bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail."

Remember that simply buying catastrophic insurance, which may be all the young uninsured family needs, does not constitute having adequate insurance under the Obama bill. It has to be total, all inclusive insurance for one to avoid the penalties in the legislation. That is because Obama wants to use these premiums from the currently uninsured to subsidize his program.

So Ms. Pelosi is requiring Americans to pay these steep premiums, or a fine of 2.5% of their income for not doing so, or, potentially, go to prison!

What about people who have religious or moral views that prevent them from getting health insurance? Do they get fined for not having any?

Oh, really.

Next you'll be telling me that we are under no obligation to pay income tax; or serve in the Armed Forces when drafted.

I could find no sense at all in your post and hereby dismiss it as superstition.

Nobody is forcing you to be an American. You might like to move to the Mosqueto Coast and be "free."

There are all sorts of mandates we must endure, from property taxes to shoe searches at airports, to having to wear clothing when we go swimming.

What happens if you don't pay your taxes?
What happens if you lie to the FBI?
What happens if you yell fire in a crowded theater?
What happens if you build a factory in a residentially zoned neighborhood?

Our "rights" are not imperious, immortal, and overriding.
We are subject to competing rights.

Don't I have a right not to be your daddy?

Very good question. This Healthcare bill assumes that EVERYONE has faith in doctors and the medical profession. Not everyone desires to be cut or drugged or poisoned with chemo. Religious views, natural medicine or people who simply wish to follow the natural course of life/death have no need for doctors. There are a lot of ASSUMPTIONS they haven't considered and this is one very important aspect.

The Democrats NEED the extra premiums to help bail out the bankrupt Medicare and to pay for their planned government healthcare.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
