Yup. Or Samm Nunn of Georgia. Either way, Obama will need to get a candidate who can pull that "less educated white" voting block that Hillary say's she has locked up. He damn sure can't pick an Al Sharpton...lol. However, one way to make sure no one takes pot shots at Obama, is to have Al Sharpton as his next in line while in office. |

Webb's proposal should pass the Congress, nobody Democrat or Republican should vote against it. Didn't the GI Bill cover college educations for servicemen? My Uncle received a college education after WWII. Was it only to cover servicemen & women sent into a hot zone or combat??

1 McCain already said he would vote against it - as with several others. Believe Bush said he would veto it if they passed it. |
The GI Bill should stand alone, no riders in the bill. Then the President should sign it. A college education is the least we can do for the soldiers. |

1 Seem to be the only ones standing up for them right now. Conservatives need to get off their ass and unite with the Liberals on a common issue - taking care of our vets. And taking care of our soldiers still in harm's way. What is your problem with that? |

Would be for that if a comprehensive veterans care and funding bill would follow without pork or riders. We have a broken system right now for veteran's health care that also needs to be fixed and infrastructure problems. |

What planet are you own where this is being done? Do you see bashing Bush as bashing the troops? |

You are deluded. It is the lying neo-conservatives who are bashing the troops. But you knew that, liar. |

Did you all miss this part?
"The Blue Dogs complained the House hadn't identified any way to pay for the new benefits, either through spending cuts or tax increases, as required by pay-as-you-go rules imposed by House Democrats when they took power early last year." The "old" GI Bill did not require you to serve in a combat or "hot-zone" in order to receive benefits. It required you to serve an enlistment that ended with an Honorable Discharge. |

Maybe Mr. "War Hero" John McCain's opposition to this improved G.I. Bill should have been placed a little higher up in the article. This guy's key to election is his military history, yet he opposes giving troops today what he had available to him when he served. Straight talk? Straight B.S.!

"emergency spending bill", this is just it, I don't think there is any "Emergency" for this $$$. What, nobody knew we would be in Iraq this year?
Also, since this is all about the "Blue Dogs" shouldn't you be telling us just who they are? |
|
And you need to stop pretending they are! |
|

we, the people, need to change things and we can if we get off our duffs and start taking an interest - it will take a few years, but if every time there is an election, we vote the incumbent out regardless of the party, in about ten years there will be a complete turnover and maybe they, the" govmt!" will begin to listen to us instead of "big business"! I am appalled at the physical, mental and medical treatment of our soldiers, I am appalled that there is any question about giving them a good GI BILL and I am appalled that we still have troops in Japan, Germany, etc. when we need them at home to protect our own borders.
