How the government spends your taxes

I'm pretty sure it goes down the drain while a magical printing press pumps out more.

Lets get rid of the military. We're wasting way too much money on it. Bill made a good start at eliminating the military. Lets elect Hillary so she can finish. We do not need to be fighting all over the world. Lets show the world that the military isn't the answer. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!

I have to agree with that. We should keep our nukes for deterrance, but get rid of our military, they are just a BIG waste of money today and too much of a temptation for our Presidents in the future, now that they have Bush's example, to use them against countries for non-self defense reasons.

Come on now, I would hate to live in a country without a military. However, I don't think it's our job to police the world...

If we were to be more diligent in how welfare and social security are doled out, we'd save a bundle. I'm not saying there aren't people who need it; but anyone who is in the prime of life and not physically disabled should be able to work. Having kids is not an excuse for being on welfare.

I also think we should not be so cavalier about spending money on war/military. While we should not be without a military, it should be reserved as a last resort.

Also, education taxes should be charged according to how many children a family has. If I have one child and my neighbor has 5, we both pay the same amount of school tax even though their children are using more resources.

There are lots of ways America could save money, but it doesn't have to because it sucks its money from taxpayers and we keep right on giving, no questions asked, no accountability necessary.

The military is a constitutional responsibility of government. Education, health, and social services are not. We are to PROVIDE for the defense and PROMOTE the general welfare.

Well, you're off topic with regards to my post. The previous poster wanted us to "eliminate" the military.

You obviously would like to start a different debate. I'm guessing about the leadership in our country. Is the military really part of your complaint? Is is current leadership, which leaders? Is is the system in general?

Yes, it is. What do you expect these women and men to do with their children while they have to watch their children? They can't put them in a day-care, they are INFINITELY too expensive for a normal person making even 10 dollars an hour. They cannot leave them with family and friends, because more and more people do not have any close family near them to leave the children with and no close friends who are willing to do that with either.

Really, we should start paying women and men to raise children. I am totally serious with that suggestion, because children are the next generation and they are MORE IMPORTANT than you or I.

What if we did away with the military? Who or what group of people will watch over us during the midnight hours. Who will stand brave and tall on the waters and the dessert lands? When people become evil in their actions who will take charge and eliminate the behavior and lock them down? Our local police? our State police, Our National Guards, Our Federal investigations, our what???When people start thinking evil they begin to act out their thoughts. Did you see the 3rd graders??? now what??? we do need the military over there. We do not want fighting over here??? or do you???

Correct, and add to that a few hundreds of billions to keep the financial markets from reaching equilibrium. After awhile it adds up to real money. Good thing we aren't adding children's health care to the tally.

We need to stop paying these countries aid that hate us but want our money. The tax payers of this country are paying for other countries economies. When are they going to pay us back because our government doen't seem to care if they do or not. All they want to do is raise our taxes and give more to other countries so they can our flag.
