Akaka & Inouye go separate ways on bill

WASHINGTON Hawaii's U.S. senators split their votes yesterday as the Senate approved a bill that overhauls bitterly disputed rules on secret government eavesdropping.

Hey Big Dan, You need to listen to your constituents, not the people who make big contributions to your war chest. Your constituents overwhelmingly oppose this bill as well as the original acts of invading our privacy.
I'm worried that you're losing your grip.

Sen. Inouye is on the right side for America. The War on Terror continues and we must be prepared so as not to be attacked again like 9/11/01.

Akaka voted wrong. He didn't get the words from his handlers that Inouye was voting for the measure.

Inouye is on the right side of America and is fighting terrorism.

When are liberals like Akaka going to face reality? Invoking violation of civil rights as a reason to vote against the bill is a cop out of responsibility. Terrorists love this kind of thinking. Terrorists don't care about civil rights - they want any opening they can get to damage America. It would be nice if liberals and their ilk clearly explain how protection of civil rights counter terrorist threats.

Akaka is right, we cannot lose sight of individual rights and freedoms which is what we are fighting for now. Keep up the good work. We can't have more big brother in our face.

This is the usual plan by the two Dans. Don't kid your self, Akaka just does exactly as the real Dan tells him. I predicted this is what would happen. Hawaii your voice in the Senate has been canceled out again because Dan Inouye thinks his relationship with Corrupt Senators is more important than the fourth amendment. This is what all that seniority buys us.

As long as the surveillance is carried out on Terrorist communications into or out of the USA that is fine with me.
Invading Terrorist's Privacy is ok with me.

I'm concerned that Manini is losing his sanity ;)

Whoa! You mean we gave the telcomms immunity AFTER they illegally spied on the American people? Explain to me how many terrorists were convicted, or even identified doing that!

It's time to shovel out the worn out representation from Hawaii and get some new blood in there. Probably just as corrupt as the rest of the State, but at least it'll be some fresh faces.

And NO... it's not ok to spy on Americans. THAT is un-American.

It's obvious to clear thinking Americans that Sen. Inouye does not want to give the terrorists, our enemies anywhere to hide among US citizens to commit crimes of murder and destruction.

On the other hand, Sen. Akaka thinks it is more important that a criminal intent on doing harm, has rights to stay hidden until he can complete his dastardly deed all in the name of "Privacy"?

Sen. Inouye wants to uncover the perpetrator as soon as possible by all means possible.

Sen. Akaka wants to sue the enemy into submission. Too bad Johnny Cockran is not alive. I might feel more secure with Johnny Cockran on the job suing Osama and his minions into submission.

We are at war and anything that can be done to prevent an attack needs to be considered. Always yelling about abuse (what real abuse has there been) and big brother in the face (even more should Obama make it) is appeasement.
Why should we always make it easy for our enemies to attack us? We need to get them before they get us - and they continue to attempt to get us.

Let's see how the republicans like it when they are the ones spied on under the new Democratic administration.

Why is it so hard for people to see past petty politics?

Sen Inouye - I called your office to vote against this. As many people here ask, just to whom are you listening?
