Arizona man gets a win in same-sex marriage debate

A judge handed a victory Friday to a gay man who lost his spouse to cancer last month and was denied death benefits because Arizona does not recognize same-sex marriage . Fred McQuire and George Martinez were partners of 45 years who got married in California this summer, fulfilling one of their final wishes as they both dealt with serious health issues.

Tourist Trapped visits the state Capitol

As I entered the California State Capitol in Sacramento on Wednesday morning and passed through security, a suit-clad guard asked me, "Are you staff?" While neither the Senate nor the Assembly is in session, Senator Mark Leno had arranged for me to visit his office and get a tour. Excited, I'd arrived for my tour of the Capitol two hours early.
