Hey Sentinel, fix the formatting! The PARAGRAPH is your FRIEND.

On the other hand, interesting to see that ol' Sam is the grower's friend, NO MATTER WHAT you grow!

Yes, get real. The medical marijuana "patient" is not getting harrassed. We need MORE regulation to get rid of the fraud "patients" who are involved in this multibillion dollar industry under the guise of medical needs. Sam Farr, would you like a dispensary in YOUR neighborhood?

Thanks for the invitation, probable Farr staffer. It's no coincidence that on the same page as this article about Farr pushing to give marijuana the image of a good, mainstream medicine is another article reporting an increase in marijuana use by local students who "are toking up and believe it's benign." With role models like Farr, who needs a pusher? The political payback is that Farr will be guaranteed a steady stream of mush-brained voters willing to keep reelecting him has long as he supports their bad habits.

i would rather have a dispensary near my house than a liquor store...think about it ..a mellow person getting pot and leaving with no problems or a drunk person stumbling by going to get more booze 4x per day..

What a waste of time, effort, and tax payer money. Just legalize it already.

Good move, Sam, IMO. Words from Washington mean very little if not codified. And we know how quickly decisions are reversed when the other team takes over.

Those who complain that BO's full of promises but doesn't deliver should be delighted with Farr's action.

Go Sam! This is why we keep reelecting you, you are one of the few politicians that listen to your constituency and act in the publics best interest.Prohibition of pot has only made it more expensive and more popular. In an age of govt going broke, for financial reasons alone- we need to stop wasting millions of dollars and young lives prosecuting and imprisoning potheads across America.I don't want another Republican idiot like Bush, telling me I'm a criminal for firing up my Volcano- while the economy tanks!I gotta solution- legalize weed and tax it!Unlike everything else the govt does, this one will make a fortune- that could potentially even float our failing health and educational institutions.Even if you're stupid, and support pot prohibition- ask yourself if it's ethical to deny cachectic, vomiting patients on chemotherapy-the most effective appetite stimulant/anti-emetic known to man.

Alan must be talking about Big Pharma when he says:

"Yes, get real. The medical marijuana "patient" is not getting harrassed. We need MORE regulation to get rid of the fraud "patients" who are involved in this multibillion dollar industry under the guise of medical needs. Sam Farr, would you like a dispensary in YOUR neighborhood?"

I dunno, would you like a pharmacy in your neighborhood? Ever ask the pharmacies around town how much oxycontin and vicodin they move? How about Prozac, Paxil and Ritalin? Here's a hint: Global sales of ADHD drugs (all methamphetamine derivatives) are forecast to reach $3.3 billion by 2010.

So, you must be up in arms over this, yes, Alan? Here's the latest on the scourge:

"According to doctors at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, calls to poison control hotlines about children between the ages of 13 and 19 overdosing on drugs to treat ADHD have increased by 76% over the last 8 years."

"Reuters reports that Dr. Jennifer Setlik, along with other researchers, looked at information from the American Association of Poison Control Centers which spanned an eight year period and found a significant increase in calls regarding abuse of drugs such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Vyvanse."

Regardless of what the pharma corporations and their pet paid-off doctors would like you to believe, this is insane.

And yes, medical marijuana is (for most patients) a far better treatment for adult depression and PTSD than the patented pharma compounds.

On the other hand, if I had a broken leg or a bacterial infection, I would go straight to Big Pharma, not to the herb store.

I wonder what the City Council has to say about the comparison between pharmacies and medical marijuana dispensaries?

HELL NO! There are no medical marijuana clubs in all of Monterey county. Sick people must buy their weed, from those three outlets in the city of Santa Cruz. There are no licensed clubs in San Benito or Santa Clara counties either. Does it make sense to elect, and re-elect county stupidvisors and silly council morons, who have defied Proposition 215 for a dozen years? They have no more excuses, now that the DEA is laying off the legitimate operators.

God bless Sam Farr and his will to help the sick and protect our rights. Obama will keep his word, but having it in writing will be crutial if the Republicans return to office anytime soon.

Also, please make abortion ILLEGAL ...

Within the last year, I have found that these forums are about 70 plus percent FOR outright legalization of cannabis. The few people against legalization use arguments that do not have much basis in reality or are just personal attacks. It seems like the only people that want prohibition are those profiting from it.
