Shays looks ahead to future

Full story: Connecticut Post

Had life gone the way former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays planned it, his current routine would be much like that of the previous 21 years: meetings most weekdays with staff, fellow legislators, and lobbyists on Capitol Hill charting answers to the nation's problems; weekend dashes back home to meet with constituents about their concerns, where even ...

Quotes from the article:

"Ultimately, Shays said he expects to earn far more than his annual congressional salary of roughly $170,000.'I'll be making about five times as much,' he predicted."

"Besides, he said his congressional pension would have been subtracted from the director's salary and he would not have been able to serve on other boards at the same time. So he asked them to take his name off."
__________

"A finely tuned sense of duty," my arse! The only "finely tuned sense" that Chris Shays has is for dollars and cents, as the quotes above reveal.

Maybe if, during his 21 years in office, he voted like the Republican that he was supposed to be instead of the Democrat that he really is, he would not be a washed-up politician who was thrown out of Congress by a political newcomer. Have fun visiting those museums in D.C., Chris, and (please!) don't come back to Connecticut.

He may make more money, but he has lost the power. Power is the thing politicans thrive on. Now he is just another nameless, faceless, person in the crowd. His loss is no loss for Connecticut. Dodd next.

I love how Susan Silvers, the author of this article, had to imply that Shays knew about the embezzlement from his campaign. Chris Shays only says he did not know about it -- that is the best she can do. Susan, Shays is not running again. It is ok to be truthful. You do not have to slant the articles against him.

The truth is that we should all miss having a representative who actually had good ideas for our country. Instead, we have Himes, an Obamacrat who does not seem to have anything original to offer.

I frequently did not like Shays' ideas, but I always respected both his efforts and his intelligence. The country will miss him.

Just go away already!
What a fluff piece. Shays was an absolute hog. He can't give up the junkets to the Middle East and the five-star hotels.
His new job is payback for all the "favors" that he did at our expense.

500K a year because he is such a genius that is worth that on the private sector? Yeah, right. It's because he is going to call his congressional buddies and get favors done.

He was part of the big spenders club called the "U.S. Congress". He is a nice guy who learned how to spend taxpayer's money. He forgot how to CUT, CUT, CUT spending. Himes will have to learn the same lesson.

I think some of the comments on here are sad. Chris represented his district well, a moderate who helped both sides of the aisle, he did his job and did it well. I am proud he represented me, not like this unoriginal, got in by luck Himes. No one knew Himes and he only won because of the surge of voters choosing Obama. Chris stood up for CT and lead on such great issues like Campaign Finance Reform. Good for Chris in whatever comes his way and it's a shame that people like his campaign manager took advantage of his kindness, and shame on the haters who never saw all the good Chris did for CT.

Shays was a do-nothing bag of wind, wucking on the public teat.
His early check-bouncing should have been a warning to all of Connecticut but this state is,collectively,so stupid they ignored his lack of character and ability.
Now he is back on the junket circut that he adored and staying in the five-star hotels in Dubai where they know him well.
Connecticut is no better than Rhode Island. A pathetic little pissant state.

He was always concerned about Chris Shays first and Ct next. With all the trips he took to the mid east you would think the Bush administration would have had better information. As soon as he lost he put his house on the market in Bridgeport, so much for living among the people. Where did he move to any way? He lost, too bad we still have to read about him and his antics.

Right-O!
Shays is a corrupt,no-talent bloodsucker who now makes more than most people,at taxpayers expense AGAIN! Add that to his board seats on companies that are notoriously mismanaged and he will be making over a million a year.
Beats bouncing checks,eh Chris?

You all DO recall that Shays was the number two check bouncer in the House Post Office scandel?
Why didn't you voters peg him for what he was back then?

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Virgo

It's okay to have high expectations, but try to keep in mind that no one can be all things to all people. As the Moon spends one last day in its current sign, it urges you to find a way to recognize others for their strengths, and forgive them their weaknesses. Virgoans' idiosyncrasies must look like strange quirks from the outside as well! Fate ties up the loose ends towards the end of the day.
