A taxi driver charged with the attempted rape and sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman has been remanded in custody. Ian George Burge, 36, of Newlands Gardens, Workington, made a brief appearance before District Judge Gerald Chalk at Carlisle Magistrates' Court on Monday afternoon in connection with the alleaged attack on September 12. He faces four charges.

Malachy Patrick Cordin, 25, of Furness House, Little Clifton, near Workington, was told Cumbria's roads were not like German autobahns, which have no speed limit.
