Coryton's iconic towers to be demolished

a Lifeboat was launched to a stricken sailing yacht suffering with engine failure on Saturday.
Gravesend RNLI was called out to assist a sailing yacht which had issued a Mayday call after suffering engine failure in Long Reach, close to the QEII Bridge, at about 3.30pm. The yacht was unable to make way against the tide and it was decided that the best course of action was to rig a tow and take the yacht back to their mooring at Thurrock Yacht Club.

High House Production Park in Vellacott Close, Purfleet, has been running a volunteer programme for two years and is looking for more volunteers for the new season, which is now starting.
Les rolls in for a nostalgia trip
SEVENTIES heartthrob Les McKeown will be coming to Thurrock next month to sing for fans of his former chart-topping band, the Bay City Rollers. The singer, whose face was to be found on tens of thousands of teenage girls' walls in the band's heyday is playing at the Thameside Theatre, in Orsett Road, Grays on Friday, October 17. The Scottish band were a pop phenomenon from 1973 onwards, their concerts witnessing scenes reminiscent of Beatlemania at its craziest.

The four groups which have been shortlisted for Grays are: Karis May Darling Foundation, East Thurrock Community Association Orsett Church of England Primary School and Thurrock's Next Top Boss.

The Essex Entertainment Awards is heading to Grays
The musical awards ceremony, which celebrates talent from across the county will be held at the Civic Hall in Grays on November 2. The awards, which were started last year, proved to be a great success and str back for a second year running. Several musicians from Thurrock are up for awards, including the band Tall Dark Friend who have been nominated for best original artist and ISPA for best dance act.

Ukip councillor denies drink drive charge
Robert Ray, 65, who has been a councillor since May 2012, denied one charge of drink driving when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday. The Aveley and Uplands ward councillor had been at Orsett Hall for a fundraising dinner with the party's national leader Nigel Farage and the Thurrock candidate for next year's general election, Tim Aker.
