Negotiations begin to supply Cumbria's CCTV

Negotiations are underway to find a supplier for the scheme, which would see a network of 53 CCTV cameras operating across Carlisle, Barrow, Workington, Kendal, Whitehaven and Penrith. Richard Rhodes, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria, said: "It is currently anticipated that a contract will be awarded during October 2014, which will operate for a seven-year period subject to satisfactory performance.

Emergency inspections at Cumbrian care home

The Care Quality Commission has confirmed that it sent inspectors back to the BUPA-run Beacon Edge Specialist Nursing Home just weeks after publishing an already critical report. In that report published on August 6 the home, in Beacon Edge, Penrith, was found to be failing its residents in two out of five basic standards.

THE Cumbria soil and nutrient expert Professor Brian Chambers has died suddenly.

Prof Chambers, head of the ADAS Soils and Nutrients Group, grew up on a dairy farm in Penrith and throughout his career maintained strong links with the farming community. He worked at ADAS for nearly 29 years after studying Soil Science at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the University of Aberdeen.
