Kent Pecoy is an absolute jerk. While his homes are gorgeous (and typically self-designed without input from the owners, and also notoriously half finished)- he's also a home wrecker. He stole a client's wife many years back- as his team were building the couple's dream home - Kent then walked away with a $25k "gratuity" check, and the man's wife (allegedly). Frankly, while it's nice to see a local builder featured on national t.v., I wouldn't say Kent Pecoy was the best choice.

While I wholeheartedly agree with the premise of this TV show, I am appalled by the scope of the homes they build. Like the one in Voluntown. Sure, these people are most deserving of a new home, but come on - you could build at least 3 or 4 houses with the same resources. But then I guess that wouldn't make for very interesting television, would it?

Hi Riccita - Can you tell me the location. I believe it is going to be in my home town. My husband and myself would like to help. Please post any details or a contact I can get in touch with. My husband owns a business and we would like donate our services. Thank you!

My family would love to donate our time. I do know the location but how can my family get more information to do so. We live very close to the site.

I think the builders use it as a type of advertisement. I am sure that everything is donated. Thinking of it that way, who would want their homes, their products or their furniture if they built something less impressive? To me the best part of the show is the kids reactions. Besides, who are we to judge just how much someone does or doesn't deserve?

Anyone know how taxes are handled on that show? I mean, with that kind of improvement, you know property taxes have to go sky high afterwards. I'm assuming the family is responsible for that, but if they didn't have the money to fix their falling-down house, how do they have money for increased taxes. Also, does the family have to pay income taxes on the value of the new house? As in, if the house used to be worth $50,000 and now it's worth $200,000, do they have to pay income taxes on the $150,000 difference?

I have seen them have events to raise money for things like this and several times I have seen the builder pay off their mortgage so they have the extra to save for taxes. I would think they would have to pay taxes for what the house is actually worth. Also on several houses they added things like solar panels to eliviate the cost of electric bills. Even seen local collages chip in full rides for all the kids. It is like winning the lottery for the people on this show. I am a real softy and I always end up in tears, I love this show!

You got it made.
They pass the hat through Western MA and build the house in CT.
Good work, if you can get it.

Good for you Jacob. I believe it is all paid for but you don't need to worry about that until they are selected anyway so just apply

No it won't but lets say they have to pay for their own vacation (which I believe is covered) you could be creative and do some fund raising. I am sure the good people of your community would be glad to help if called upon

Good luck. Last year we had a fund raiser for a kid who has cancer. A biker party and raised $35,000 in one day. You would be amazed how many people are willing to help if you learn how to ask.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
