When my cousin in Vancouver got cancer he began receiving treatment four days later.(Vancouver is in evil Canada, for you tea baggers.) It's a shame Mike's family is saddled with debt for the sin of living in the wrong country.
Kudos to Phil Harris for helping out. |

"While Harris died midway through the fundraiser, the effort lives on. Now funds raised from the coffee sales will go to Giacomini's family in their time of need, Cruz said in an e-mail."
I'm pretty sure you mean GIACOMINI died, not Captain Harris. |

I really wish Times Standard would hire proof readers. It makes them look very unprofessional. Bring back Eureka Reporter. Bless you Captain Phil for helping out this family at there time of need. Thank You!!! |

--Vancouver is a beautiful place, its just too bad the canadian health care system is rather backwards compared to the USA System--Canadians have a 25% higher cancer death rate than the USA, because the USA leads the world in medical technology, medical drug discoveries, and medical care--The whole world depends on our drug companies to discover the latest drugs to combat illnesses around the world--No other country can compare with our technology and resources and intelligence, certainly not Canada lol |

nice to see Phil Harris helping out, he has his own health problems also--Deadliest Catch is a great show, we've watched it for years.

When I read this article I was thinking the same thing as you were. So tragic that the family is saddled with debt after losing a loved one. It's nice that the US is so far advanced in medical technology. Too bad the average person can't afford it. It's ridiculous. |

Don't you mean "their" time of need? I guess your proofreader is on vacation. |

39ehonor, your Canada statistics are wrong. You eat industry lies for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The US is far behind most other industrialized nations in health care. The world is doesn't know whether to laugh or cry at people like you fighting to keep your fellow neighbors sick. And for what? So Obama doesn't get re-elected? You're not just sick. You're immoral. Have you no shame? |

Is phil harris coming this coming friday or was he already here?? friday 9/11? Times standard needs to really put in dates...The Monterey Herald will have an article on an event, then they will tell you at the end of the article, IF YOU GO: time, place, cost, etc.
The rule for informative articles: tell them what your going to tell them, tell them, then tell what you told them. |

Nobody says we have to be like Canada, we can improve our health care system to be better if it needs to be better than Canada. I know a few Canadians who are happy with their heath care. The fact remains that this man's health insurance tapped out. Now his family is in incredible debt by trying to save his life. Why don't people get it that the insurance industry has complete control over our lives and needs to be regulated. My condolences to the family.

39ehonor can't be wrong after all he gets his info from Glen McCarthy, I mean Glen Beck. This story can't be right either because how could a family be in debt for a medical problem when we have the best health care system in the world. Isn't that right Teabaggers? Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that has to happen to a group of teabagger family members before they'll catch a clue and think on their own and quit listening to Hannity and Limbaugh. Most normal people don't have to listen to Obama, Dean or anybody else to tell us the health care system is messed up. Just look at your premiums and how they've skyrocketed. |

That's right Billy Bob. There are many reasons to question health care reform, but only Americans are saying Canadians hate their health care. Are there any Canadians out there that can tell me that our health care system is better than theirs. Anyone?

I read this as well early am this morning. I guess proof-reading prior to printing is a misnomer. Jeffrey Lytle McKinleyville - 5th District |

I believe my health policy cuts out after $1M. Cancer treatment can easily cost more than that. I hope my cancer could be cured with the first $1M bc it doesn't matter what type of technology or drugs are available, if I am sick with cancer, I won't receive any care after that first $1M. Of course that assumes I can keep working at my job while I am sick with cancer, and paying copays, bc if I don't, my wonderful health policy will be cancelled due to lack of payment.
We need health reform now. The bullroarers should put a cork in it if they don't want to have a civil discourse over how best to effect reform. Of course now it has come out that the bullroarers at the health care reform townhalls are paid to be there. Slimeballs. |

I learned long ago that the Sub Standard does not use the basic 5 w's (who, what, when, why, where) and how in it is reporting. I moved away from Eureka 10 years ago and quite often I have to read the comments just to see where something happened. Case in point, last week they reported on a apartment fire. Most they gave was it was in Eureka. How about a address or at least cross streets. |

who gives a crap about proofreading, just read the story and move on with your day if you have nothing productive to bring to the table.

Just another example of lowering the standards. This community is so full of indidviduals that just do not care whether they do a job well. What makes it worse is that so many are accepting of it. I do get your point about life being more important than picking out the mispellings and mediocre items of an article to gripe about. However, there are much bigger items that warrant some of the oversight received. The public deserves a better delivery of news than what we are currently getting these days. |

Going back and forth across the border as I have over the years, meeting many Canadians, I have heard both sides from them about their health care system. My own uncle had to go to Belgium to get his hip resurfaced, or wait over a year -on morphine for the terrible pain- to have the procedure done in Canada. Others have raved to me about how they thank their lucky stars for the Canadian system. One friend told me that when it was proposed to the Canadians yrs ago, when ever it was, they protested it too.
Thanks and blessings on Cap'n Harris for being such an honorable man and decent human being. Respects to the Giacomini family. |
