Can it be because it is a battleground state with a Hispanic majority? McCain has "Daddy Yankee" doing the same thing for him in the East Coast. It's called pandering. What do you do for an encore beside copy campaign slogans, say "gosh darnit" and then wink? |

Prior to this event, LCSN printed this article:
http://www.lcsun-news.com/news/ci_10620163 Celebrities Eva Longoria and Adam Rodriguez to speak in Las Cruces (1:44 p.m.) Sun-News report Article Launched: 10/02/2008 01:59:59 PM MDT LAS CRUCES - Actress Eva Longoria, star of the popular television sitcom, "Desperate Housewives," and actor Adam Rodriguez of "CSI: Miami" will be speaking to NMSU students at 11:15 a.m. this Sunday at the Corbet Center Outdoor Stage. The two are helping out with a college voter registration tour in New Mexico, designed to register student voters before the registration deadline of Oct. 7. Longoria and Rodriguez are scheduled to address the important privilege of voting in the upcoming presidential election. Although the article was written in a non-biased fashion, many commented that they were here for Obama. After the fact, the real purpose was printed as is evident by the headline. Why couldn't the LCSN just tell it like it was from the get go??? I seriously don't give a rat's hiney who's here campaigning for either side, being that celebrities aren't going to sway my vote one way or the other. What I do take issue with is that the LCSN wouldn't have just told it straight from the get go! |

They want more Hispanics to register to vote. So I guess that must mean the descendants of these people aren't important enough:
-Asians -Pacific Islanders -Africans (oddly enough) -Middle easterners -Europeans (Not all white, some Europeans are quite dark) I might also add that real Hispanics are quite fair complected, by that I mean people from Spain (The original Roman word meant people from Spain). Our 'Hispanics' around here are mostly Native American in their genetics...very little actual Spanish blood. If Hispanic now means Spanish-speaking, does that mean a white guy that is fluent in Spanish and grew up in Mexico is Hispanic? Didn't think so. Why can't the Obama campaign just say they want everybody to register to vote? I'm all for everybody voting, but nit-picking on race is racist. I thought we, as a nation, were trying to get away from racism, with the Democratic Party leading the charge. Guess I was wrong. Just calling a spade a spade here. |

You did mean corn tacos, right? |

Si, Si, corn tacos.[I prefer black beans or refried, Longoria orders Boston baked beans for her taco (?) Loco]. |

"Why can't the Obama campaign just say they want everybody to register to vote?"
-that is because the do NOT want everyone to vote. they want easily impressionable minds to register. they don't want anyone who might support the oposing party to register. so they are basically saying, "if you support desperate houswives, register to vote and vote for obama." |
Again, it's called pandering and McCain is doing the same thing with Daddy Yankee, so get off the high horse here. Besides, what do you think McCain did by choosing Palin as his running mate? It must have been to pander to women, disgruntled Clinton supporters, and the neocon bas, because he could of sure as hell picked a more qualified VP candidate. |

I've never really understood people who need to look to celebrities to figure out their values and priorities. Personally, I am registered with one of the major political parties, but I don't vote straight party line. I vote my convictions. Please don't be swayed by some good looking, well paid, celebrity who uses their soap box to espouse their own personal agenda. Do your own research. Find out what is the most important issue to you and follow your heart and head to a decision. Be a well informed voter not just some sort of zombie that follows the crowd because someone tells you you are being ignored and talked down to. For Longoria to say that Obama is somehow the only one who speaks to young people is rediculous. She acts as though all young people think alike, or at least they should. I find it offensive that the Democratic party expects all Hispanics to follow in lock-step the talking points they offer. As a well educated hispanic woman, who happens to be a wife, mother, professional educator, Christian, and conservative I will vote enthusiastically for John McCain and Sarah Palin. Though I don't agree 100% with either presidential candidate I can without reservation say that my convictions are much more closely aligned to McCain/Palin, then they ever could be compared to Obama/Biden. I trust my education, as well as my experience working for the federal, state, and local governments to help form my opinions. Unlike either of these celebrities, I can honestly say that I have briefed U.S. House of Representative Staffs in Washington, D.C. I have also written speeches that were delivered by a couple of different Democratic U.S.Congressmen on the floor of the House. I'm not impressed simply because someone has had their name in some list of credits for a TV show. I can think on my own...thank you very much.

Celebrities Eva Longoria and Adam Rodriguez to speak in Las Cruces (1:44 p.m.)

I can think of no better endorsement for McCain. Some half-baked, know-nothing celebrities telling college students how to vote. What a freakin' joke! I think its time to invade Hollywood. |

The photo cutline is incorrect. His name is Adam Rodriguez, not Adam Garcia.
