Community Management

Online Community Manager

Topix is looking for an Online Community Manager to join our team!

A Topix Community Manager is responsible for responding to a daily influx of user questions, suggestions and concerns via email and forum posts, monitor forums for adherence to Topix Terms of Service, and step in where needed to right the proverbial ship.

Topix Terms of Service enforcement can sometimes involve meticulous research and investigative work into user and forum activity over extended periods of time. Other responsibilities include photo moderation, editor management, helping our newspaper partners with their forum management and diligence in fighting the good fight against would-be spammers from around the globe.

Requirements

Requirements include the ability to evenhandedly enforce Terms of Service in the face of potentially radical posted opinion that may challenge your own political, moral, spiritual or other beliefs. Candidates must have a strong stomach, abundance of good humor and a passion for online community. Previous forum experience as a Moderator or "Power User" is highly relevant to this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working with Business Development, Legal, Technology, and Product teams to understand the needs and priorities of the Topix Community.
  • Enforcing the Topix Terms of Service in an even-handed and judicious manner.
Education and Work Experience
  • Four years of college (or equivalent) and two years of related online Community experience are required.
  • Experience maintaining a public forum and/or user-generated content (including personal blogs) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing technology company, particularly a consumer-facing website is as also highly desirable.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to interact productively with co-workers and others across departmental lines.
