Microsoft: Windows 7 Inspired By Mac OS X

Full story: technologyexpert.blogspot.com

Honesty is the best policy, but one has to wonder if Steve Ballmer is pulling what's left of his hair out over this comment by Microsoft's Partner Group Manager, Simon Aldous. In an interview with PCR, he admitted (horror) that Windows 7 took inspiration from Mac OS X.

firefox isn't a windows program. you can use it on a mac.

plus you don't get screwed by the security flaws that try to put random .exe files in your system. no keyloggers, no trojan horses, no viruses.

but hey, no one is stopping you from loving your PC that much. Just make sure you wear a rubber.

As soon as there are enough Mac's out there, the hackers will attack them too and we'll get to see how virus proof Mac's really aren't. The main reason that Apple OS's are safe right now is that there are so relatively few of them in service (as compared to PC using Windows as the OS).

Now every new Mac ships with an Intel processor. Experience delightful responsiveness from the smallest Mac mini to the most beefed-up Mac Pro. Use one of more than 7,000 universal applications that take full advantage of the Intel chip. Run programs from your PowerPC-based Mac in translation. Powered by Intel chips, your new Mac will do all those things that only Macs can do — and do so at an astonishing level of performance.

I'll buy a MAC when there are the same number of apps, utilities and games written for it as there are for the PC - maybe...they'll also have to drop the price of their systems down by about 50 % at least, and license the hardware and software out like IBM did.

I'm not saying that MAC doesn't do what it does well, au contraire, they handle shyt very very well, however, there are too many reasons NOT to buy one yet. Price and software availability being my biggest motivators.

As for viruses, I have been a computer geek for about 30 years. The first and ONLY virus I ever got was on an Apple machine. It was before hard drives (well before I had one) and the disease spread to almost every disk I had. I remember it well. And like someone else said, the more MACs are sold, and the more software out there available for them, the more problems those owners will have with viruses. It's inevitable.

After that I went and bought a 286 Windows 3.x machine and have been using PCs ever since.

I just recently went from an XP machine to Win 7. And my first thought was "they're trying to copy MAC OS - WHICH IS COOL." I love Win 7. Works great for me.

Why is it that every Mac user feels the need to tell the world that they're a Mac user?

Ever been to an elementary school computer lab? Every one is a Mac - if first graders cannot kill'm, load them with viruses - I'd say they are pretty stable. There are viruses for Macs currently - but they are linked to Microsoft code. I wonder if MS has a team of virus fiends purposely creating malicous code to keep them doing something? The anti-spyware, mal-ware, virus business is huge business anymore.

Again, the number of PC's with Mac OS's is miniscule in comparison to the number of PC's using some version of Windows, elementary school computer labs notwithstanding. Besides, how many fourth and fifth graders have the technical knowledge required to generate a computer virus?

Every one's a MAC? Please provide proof of that wild claim. Almost every public school in Oregon uses Linux. Including the University system and the local community college uses PCs.

yeah, somehow i don't think that's what it is.

I think that most mac users want to defend themselves when windows users say things like

especially when it is said by someone named "MacSucksLinuxDucks" .

If you go into any group of people and say "All left-handed people are metally retarded and should go suck a right-handed person's dick", i would imagine you would get some backlash from the lefties in the group. In fact, they would probably have some statistics at the ready to prove that left-handed children have higher test scores, higher IQs, and the like.

If you go to a car convention and say "Ford is just an acronym for Found On Road Dead", you'll have ford owners jump up and say that their '69 mustang has been running great since the day they bought it back in 1970.

People defend their choices. Computers are actually one market where brand loyalty will penetrate really deeply.
