Tessera Solar, the developer and operator of large-scale solar projects using the SunCatcher technology and sister company of SES, is building a 60-unit plant generating 1.5 MW (megawatts) by the end of the year either in Arizona or California.

“They have the lowest water use of any thermal electric generating technology, require minimal grading and trenching, require no excavation for foundations, and will not produce greenhouse gas emissions while converting sunlight into electricity.”

Remember where and when and what.

Yep, a lot of hot air here for something. Tx is #1 in wind energy, they say..

How's your neck of the wooods??

Solar thermal (especially concentrating solar power) could well be a significant contributor to electricity within the next decade world over.

Currently, CSP contribution is meagre - just 500 MW installed world over, with 400 of it in the US. However, things are afoot which could change this dull picture quite quickly.

The key advantage of solar thermal is that storage is not a problem - unlike in solar PV - because heat can be stored much more cost effectively than electricity.

To me, any announcement on solar thermal sounds interesting because methinks solar thermal is vastly underutilized. An announcement of 1.5 MW does not sound very big to me, this is not even a drop in the energy ocean, but let's hope there is more of solar thermal.

Heatwave going on around here, a week with 70's+ and maybe 80's+ tomorrow - may have to soak my speedos in iced woolite...

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Pisces

Although you're busy putting the finishing touches to your Christmas preparations, you'll also have to pay attention to someone who's feeling neglected or unloved. Luckily, it won't take much to make this person feel better, so a big hug or a little consideration might do the trick. You should also bear in mind that they may be feeling nostalgic or sad about the past.
