How the world's oceans are running out of fish

The future of our seas has never been more precarious. Ninety years of industrial-scale overfishing has brought us to the brink of an ecological catastrophe and deprived millions of their livelihoods.

The root of all evil now has all the power. The parasite is not aware if its damage. From the macro to the micro, are we all at fault? We as well as our governments are driven by it. The evil has no concerns for the future,as it can never even conceive of itself. The bottom line drives it and us.

there are still lots of fish in certain areas of the world. when i worked in Saudi Arabia, some Americans caught large fish very easily. Saudi Arabia has a very small population and they don't eat fish that much. they usually eat lamb, etc.
probably Japan has depleted its fish supply. they eat a lot of fish there.

it's not only overfishing, but also the chemicals in the water that affect their development... i'm talking synthetic estrogens and such. we've poisoned the whole earth already.

The Japanese, Russians, and probably any other nationality of fishing industry all violate laws by overfishing and even killing dolphins by accident. Greepeace has tried to stop some of this excess.
But, there are too many humans on Earth, and they like to eat fish. Business is business. The real root problem is too many humans who need food, wood, fuel--everything to have the "good life." Nature may one day respond to this by exterminating us all via starvation, plagues, etc.
It is too bad our technology is having a hard time keeping up with the challenge of so many people. The least educated all seem to need 6 to 20 kids or more. The extremely religious must have at least 4 or 5. What to do?

It's the dolphins that are eating all the fish. If Greenpeace would stay out the way of the Japanese and Russian fishing boats, then there would be more fish for us. Until McD's runs out of the Filet of Fish I'm not worried! I've always heard that there are plenty of fish in the sea and I ended up with a whale.

Very well stated, Cash. I couldn't have stated it any better myself. I am probably much older than you, and I have lived through more changes in this world than any other generation. It is all part of the plan: Too many dollars, people, automobiles, houses, drugs, polluticrats, etc., etc., etc. A period of defilement and the worst is yet to come.(BEWARE OF THE GIANT)

I think we are killing fish just like we are killing ourselves. We all need the right environment to live. If the air or the water is not right then we fall victims. Lets keep our water and air clean so we humans along with the sea species can live healthy. Then we will have plenty of food to eat.

IF Earth was properly developed and managed, IF we took advantage of the resources available off planet (particularly power, and minerals / ores from asteroids), and IF the next period of glaciation does not occur before we learn how to handle / control it, Earth could sustain 10-20 billion people fairly nicely. Perhaps not at a level where everyone has "3 big SUV's and a 20 ft. hi-speed boat in the driveway in front of a $250,000 house", but, better than the average around the world today.

Granted, those are big ifs.

Anybody else notice how much of the fish @ the supermarket is now coming from China?

If by "it" you are referring to the love of money, then I would concur.(Although, it should also be said that money in and of itself is not evil... it's the LOVE of money that's the root of all evil!!!)

You said, "The real root problem is too many humans who need food, wood, fuel--everything to have the 'good life.'" I agree! So, when are you planning on taking yourself out so that others can live better!?

You said, "Nature may one day respond to this by exterminating us all via starvation, plagues, etc." You have chosen to use the word "may;" I choose to use the "will." You have also chosen to use the word "nature" where I would use "God." Semantics? I think not!!

You said, "It is too bad our technology is having a hard time keeping up with the challenge of so many people." Here's a clue as to why: technology isn't the be-all/end-all that we've all been sold to believe! People problems REQUIRE real people answers... not technological ones! THIS is part of the root of the problem you were speaking about!!! You're indirectly perpetuating the problems you've very accurately portrayed.

You said, "The least educated all seem to need 6 to 20 kids or more. The extremely religious must have at least 4 or 5." Oh, my! This "logic" connotes that the more erudite among us will have less children and the more ignorant will have more. Or maybe it's that the more erudite "should" have less children, and the more ignorant "should" have more. It's also interesting that you put the "extremely religious" just under the most ignorant of society. While I would agree that there are a LOT of ignorant and zealous religious people... there are just as many (in percentages) within the more erudite disciplines of our society. For instance, take those that think that technology and/or science is the cure-all for all of man's ills. "We must look to technology to solve our problems!?!" one might cry; while the more wise among us might suggest, "Why solve the world's people problems where people possess and are the solution... not technology!!!" (What a concept!!)

More leftist claptrap.

Let's all go live in caves and eat vegetables we arise ourselves in our own garden in front of the cave, and all will be well.

No fires, because that causes forest depletion and adds carbon.

No eating animals, that is unfair to animals.

Insects are OK, though, but only ones found inside our own personal cave.

This will make Algore, The Leftist King, very happy.

Um, doom & gloom is a version of reality... and one that I have chosen to see for what it is: doom and gloom! Be that as it may, the truth is the truth and facts are the facts. If you don't like the "doom and gloom" preaching... change the circumstances so that those who preach it will look ridiculous! Until then, try and solve the problem! Acknowledging a problem is neither left nor right politics; the "government as the solution to everyone's problems" is when the left rears it's ugly head!!!(To not acknowledge a legitimate problem is NOT a right-est view of the world; that would be what most would call "denial.")
