It's Time to Admit It: Serena Williams Is a Terrible Sport

Full story: Bleacher Report

I thought it was peculiar that sports broadcasters slammed Serena Williams for her on-court outburst during last week's US Open.

When will there be a punishment levied ,when she splits the head of a judge open? A one year suspension would be very reasonable in this case.

A one year suspension from you posting on topix would be very reasonable. Maybe then you can come up with a reasonable argument for acting like the "thought police".

Serena Williams tirade was reprehensible and should (and will) be punished by the WTA. It's not the first time a tennis player has been at odds with a line judge, and won't be the last. However, the punishment should be commensurate with what she actually did, not what you think she did, or what she was thinking.

In the US we don't punish people for thinking something. We punish them for doing it.

If you follow that rationale and want to be consistent then John McEnroe should have been suspended for about 15 years, given the amount of abuse he directed at tennis officials between 1977 and 1993. In fact if we applied your legal argument to other players who have committed similar offences, then McEnroe wouldn't have had a career at all, Connors would have been suspended for about 3 years and Nastase for 5. Or do you think Serena should be made a scapegoat?

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
