Thanks to several uncontrollable circumstances -- the injuries that kept her out for more than six weeks, her team's struggle to stay in playoff contention and the lack of a proper farewell tour around the league she helped build -- this has not been the final season that WNBA star Lisa Leslie envisioned.
Leslie announced before the start of the 2009 season that her 13th year in the WNBA would be her last. For the first time in its history, the nation's most successful women's professional sports league would exist without her dynamic 6-foot-5 presence on the court or in its advertising campaigns.
