I enjoyed working with Ken Hadley in the 1970's, when he was Baker County public defender and later district attorney and I was director of the Baker County juvenile department. I was delighted when he moved back to Baker City after being gone for about 20 years. He is an honorable man who hates the death penalty, as do I. Most people who work in the criminal justice system know what an expensive and ineffective tool it is.

I agree.

is it true that a 10-2 verdict can send someone to death row? if so, more kudos to Hadley.

As is the recommendation in the Bible, eye for an eye, and so on. If corporal punishment is to be dealt, it should only be so when we have guilt proven beyond a reasonable doubt that someone has killed another.

Since you have worked in the system for so long, Why do you say that the death penalty is expensive and ineffective? Just curious is all. |
