Bill Owens pulled out an extraordinary victory in New Yorka s 23rd Congressional District against the extreme right wing of a Republican Party in disarray, making him the first Democrat to hold that seat since the Civil War.

The district was recently re-districted. The physical land that is contained in the current 23rd district has been held by democrats as recently as 1993. In fact, It was held by democrats from 1979 to 1993. And before that from 1923 to 1973. Get the facts straight, instead of portraying this as a rejection of the conservative ideals held by many members of the Republican party.
