You can thank all of the crime in New Orleans for this statistic. My wife's parents moved away after their house got broken into 2 times. The police were not interested unless someone got killed. N.O.'s gang violence has been steadily increasing since the thugs started moving back after Hurricane Katrina.

That's it exactly. Chocolate City residents have no self control or discipline.

The high crime rates at NewOrleans, Chicago, N.Y.C., D.C. and L.A. are caused by illegal drug trading.
The Prohibition on cocaine makes buying and selling it lucrative. If cocaine were legal crime rates would plummet. People who sell cocaine on the street are literally murdering their competition (down the street).
The demand for cocaine (for example) comes from the middle and upper class; the lower class sell it. Selling cocaine is just too lucrative for the lower class to resist. And the fact that it's illegal makes it even more suitable for the lower class urbanite to buy and sell it. The geography of the city aids the cocaine seller by helping the seller deter detection by police (in the act of selling it and in killing the competition). The city geography also increases anonymity for the buyer, reducing their risk of detection by police.
The more the govt (police) crack down on illegal drug trading, the more lucrative it is to buy and sell it. As the profitability of illegal drug selling increases, so will the incentive to literally murder (eliminate) the competition. After police confiscate a sizeable quantity of illegal drugs (marijuana or cocain) the supply of it declines (temporarily) and then the price of it increases, making the buying and selling of it even more lucrative.
Drug dealers actually want police to catch (arrest) other drug sellers because it helps eliminate competition AND raises the selling price.
Gun crime associated in big cities is only a symptom of the bigger problem of drug trading. If marijuana and cocain were legal, gun crime would drop (gun control laws are unneccessary). Gun control by govt exacerbates the bigger problem of drug trading by creating another (lucrative) blackmarket (buying and selling of guns), and by increasing crime rates. The blackmarket for guns encourages theft, especially burglary. Gun buybacks also encourage burglary (unintentionally creating more victims). Gun buybacks should be outlawed.
The govt's immoral and futile war on drugs (and guns) harms more people than it protects.
Mandatory attendance laws for public schools increases the chances for school shootings and assaults at schools.
High crime rates (in big cities) are caused by the govt.
That is another major factor. Prohibiting people's pleasure guarantees criminal behaviour.

Then again, guaranteeing crime is a good thing when you are the government and looking for more reasons (excuses) to strip the people of further rights in the name of "making them more safe".

Or wanting to make govt self-perpetuating and expanding.

We don't care about the high crime rates or their cause. We care when the govt disarms us and leaves us even more vulnerable to all the crime and criminals the govt creates.

It's ok that people say "enforce existing laws" and "increase sentences", but the real concern should be about preventing govt from disarming us AND to keep the govt from blaming gun owners for the high crime (gun crime). The cause of high crime is the govt, not the law-abidng gun owners.

If you believe drug use is immoral then just remember it was Prohibition that led to the first major gun controls, The 1934 Gun Control Act.

Prohibition was created by the religious Temperence movement.

Is it true the Major of Chocolate City is quaranteended in China?

That's a hoot. He fled Katrina, did nothing to help the citizens, and was still RE ELECTED by his black loving constituents. Now he is in China and can't come home.

Maybe they will keep him.

And cars kill three times as many people as guns. WE SHOULD BAN DRIVING. This is such left-wing bullshit. Why did they single out 2006 ? What about 2007,2008 I guess not enough people went crazy, accidentaly shot there friend or themselves or commited suicide to make the story really juicy so you don't hear about those years. my guns have killed less people than Ted Kenedys car has. Wake up America. Your freedom was won not by the military but by farmers with hunting rifles. The left-wing wants you to read stories like this and think guns are bad. "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not." Thomas Jefferson.
Amen to that!! My gun has never even come close to a human, neither has my husband's rifles that he uses for hunting. People kill people, no matter what it is, if not guns, it will be knives if they ban guns. They can take it all away and they will still find a way to kill each other.

I just got a brand new Glock .45.
I don't go to New Orleans. It is the sespool of Loisiana. Katerina didn't do a good enough job. Everywhere the N.O. people went, they were asked to leave when the people there found out what they were all about.
Again, some people need to be killed. Like God said in the old testament, to purge the evil from among you. We haven't done that so we have to put up with this trash.

And Preacher, isn't Lafayette becoming the second cespool of La? Everytime you turn on the news it's the same thing day in and day out, people killing people.

Technically, it's criminals killing criminals.

While there does not seem to be a national data base, some cities are starting to look at who is being murdered.

IN Baltimore in 2007, they estimated that 91% of all people murdered had a criminal record.
No breakdown on what type of crime.

If this is true nationally, then the vast majority of people murdered in this country are NOT innocent. And since most of the killings are over drugs, the US and State Gov's are responsible for these deaths because of their ruinous prohibitions.

If the liberals truly wanted to reduce a large amount of killings and crime in this country, legalize all drugs now (and tax them of course).

Lafayette used to be a low crime city until the storms. We had a large influx of people relocating and the crime rate went through the roof. The parades and festivals were family events. Not anymore. I know a lot of families the refuse to go to them anymore.
The local gun store offered a concealed carry class. So many people showed up that the line was all the way out the door into the parking lot. People are trying to protect themselves and their families.

My point exactly. The criminal element evacuated from Katrina and never left. Relocated to south central and south western La. to do damage in those areas that for the most part were relatively safe until 2005. But really, what can we really do and who really is to blame? The only thing that I know for sure is people want their communities back.

As far as Louisiana goes, I believe that Earl K Long needs to stop governing from the grave. Politicians need to be less about themselves and more about this State. You want to be in politics it should be a free job. Do it like people do volunteer work. Stop the corruption, the mafia should also be put out of certain areas they control. aka New Orleans
