Steam Burns Refinery Workers
Three workers were burned at the Conoco Phillips Alliance Refinery in Jesuit Bend, according to police and company officials.
A company spokesman said the three contractors were burned by steam at the facility around 2 p.m Thursday. They were working for a company called T2S, according to the spokesman.
They were doing routine maintenance at the refinery when they hit a valve that broke off and released steam from the boiler, according to the spokesman.
Police said one of the injured was in critical condition and airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital. The other two were taken to hospitals in Plaquemines Parish.
