When an individual commits a premeditated murder and there is evidence and/or witnesses to prove it, the murderer deserves justice according to law and within a very limited period of time.

This is totally ludicrous. They should pass a law to require that a death sentence be carried out in no more than 1 year from the time it is handed down. Why should we taxpayers have to bear the burden and expense of feeding and housing this trash after they have been tried, convicted, and sentenced by a jury?

Should the death penalty be banned as a form of punishment?
YES
Financial costs to taxpayers of capital punishment is several times that of keeping someone in prison for life.
It is barbaric and violates the "cruel and unusual" clause in the Bill of Rights.
The endless appeals and required additional procedures clog our court system.
We as a society have to move away from the "eye for an eye" revenge mentality if civilization is to advance.
It sends the wrong message: why kill people who kill people to show killing is wrong.
Life in prison is a worse punishment and a more effective deterrent.
Other countries (especially in Europe) would have a more favorable image of America.
Some jury members are reluctant to convict if it means putting someone to death.
The prisoner's family must suffer from seeing their loved one put to death by the state, as well as going through the emotionally-draining appeals process.
The possibility exists that innocent men and women may be put to death.
Mentally ill patients may be put to death.
It creates sympathy for the monstrous perpetrators of the crimes.
It is useless in that it doesn't bring the victim back to life.

No proof of this anywhere
"It is barbaric and violates the "cruel and unusual" clause in the Bill of Rights."
The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the death penalty itself is not inherently cruel, but has described it as "an extreme sanction, suitable to the most extreme of crimes"
"The endless appeals and required additional procedures clog our court system. "
Do you really think that appeals stop with a life sentence
Prisoner sues state over gender rights
Inmate who gets hormone therapy wants sex change, reassignment
A Wisconsin inmate who has developed female characteristics as a result of state-paid hormone therapy is suing prison officials for not completing the sex change process.
The suit is pending in federal court in Milwaukee, filed by an inmate who was born Scott Konitzer but who now uses the name Donna Dawn Konitzer. The plaintiff is serving 123 years for multiple armed robberies and for stabbing another inmate.
The department has been providing Konitzer, 40, with hormone therapy to stimulate female development since 1999 but will not allow genital surgery.
"We as a society have to move away from the "eye for an eye" revenge mentality if civilization is to advance. "
Executions are not revenge but punishment.
"It sends the wrong message: why kill people who kill people to show killing is wrong. "
They never kill again
"Life in prison is a worse punishment and a more effective deterrent. "
Better do a little research into the re-offender data bank before making such a statement
"Other countries (especially in Europe) would have a more favorable image of America."
Who cares what they think. Some EU countries are looking into reinacting the death penalty.
"Some jury members are reluctant to convict if it means putting someone to death."
This is all disclosed in the voir dire jury questioning
"The prisoner's family must suffer from seeing their loved one put to death by the state, as well as going through the emotionally-draining appeals process."
Just imagine how the victims families feel.
"The possibility exists that innocent men and women may be put to death."
There is a chance you might be hit by lightening. Does that stop you from going outside
"Mentally ill patients may be put to death. "
If they kill they should be
"It creates sympathy for the monstrous perpetrators of the crimes."
Yes I see how much sympathy they get written all over this forum
"It is useless in that it doesn't bring the victim back to life."
It works very well the murderer does not come back to life either

When someone murders another person or several persons, like that Muslim terriorist at Ft. Hood, Texas, that qualifies as cruel, unusual and traitoristic activity. They should be tried and promptly executed. Save the taxpayers thousands of dollars per year. When caught in a murder, the murderer should be given swift and on the spot justice.
