I was just on the phone with my daughter, Alyson, a student at San Jose State on the 8th floor of Joe West dorm. She was telling me how she was getting ready for a festive costume party. Then she said, "mom it's an earthquake". I said, "make sure you you get in an arch or door way, and have shoes on". She said, "......OK, I am". Then she said, " I have to go". I was very worried.
After a few calls back, her dad was able to contacted her. She said she was fine. I'm so glad

Dang! My car lurched side to side and I thought it was breaking down and about to blow up. So much for my knowledge of cars. Had no idea until 1/2 an hour later that it was an earthquake!

I was downstairs when, suddenly the house started shaking. The things started shaking and i knew it was an earthquake. My heart started beating as I started running outside to know it was a 5.6 earthquake.

I felt a lot of shaking. I am just NE of the Milpitas area in San Jose. I am from CO and staying in a hotel. I know many of us staying here are not from CA, but we were all very surprised.

Yes, Here in Milpitas I work on Milpitas Blvd and Caleveras we felt it pretty strong. Employees panic and started running outside before the shaking stopped. I myself was scared and ready to run outside. But I stayed calm and tried to keep my employees calm. After the shaking stopped I had them leave the building and head out to our emergency evacuation area. There was no equipment issues or damages so around 9pm we got the ok to go back inside. All I got to say is are you prepared?

We felt it very strong. I live between Alum Rock and Milpitas along the foothills and pictures fell of walks. A speaker fell and damaged our hardwood floor. The water in our swimming pool was sloshing back and forth. It was pretty scary. I was in Oakland during the quake in 89 and that was no fun either. Don't like them.
