To Lakewood High and the football program, explain to the honest good people of Lakewood why they should have to suffer the weekly threat of violence that invades our city for every home game of the football season. Moore League football is a pox on us all.

Why are Compton residents going to Lakewood Highschool? Why do we, yet again, hear of a Compton gang member attending Lakewood High school committing yet another felony?! Enough, I say. This is pry why Lakewood residents wanted out of the infested LBUSD for the last 50 years. These kids are raised by people we don't want to have anything to do with. Stay in your own damned city. Lakewood High football/ athletics is my suspect in the attraction to the gang members.

Too little too late....you morons at the LBUSD have shipped gang members to schools all over Long Beach and Lakewood, then you are too greedy to provide proper security to ensure students safety. No wonder this area has so many private schools. Residents are willing to work extra jobs and do without rather than put their children's safety in your hands.

Police and school security staffing shortages are to blame. The school district and city were irresponsible and did not provide the public safety that should have been in place. Thankfully now they will. High School games in Long Beach need much more direct parental involvement. If more parents cared with their time and attention, Melody Ross would still be us and gangs would be much less of a factor. Let's learn something from this unfortunate tragedy.

Its not the shcools fault, security, lbusd, police, long beach or any one elses fault. It's the punk who committed the crime and the punks parents more or less. Simple as that. We shouldn't even have to have security at a freakin highschool football game for gods sake, let alone an entire swat team, which seems like people are crying for. Unfortuantley there are a lot of people in this society who have their priorities backwards...

It has the money, dont be fooled Skippy, the homecoming game was over sold, the extra ticket sales could have easily paid for a couple cops in black and whites to be stationed on Ximeno. If you read this article, now they have even more money for security since their failure to keep kids safe has been highlighted. Hell the district even had an extra couple hundred grand to throw out the window on the Measure T election. As far as where I have been lately, I have been driving my kids to Wilson HS the last 4 years dodging school busses (more money down the drain) that have been dropping out of area students off on Ximeno, and you?

Really? its not their fault? I have to disagree. In a perfect world no we wouldnt need all kinds of security and cops at the games. But Long Beach is far, far, far from a perfect city. The school district, the city council and the Police know there is a huge gang problem in this city. Its their jobs to prevent this type of stuff from happening. Nobody is crying for a swat team to be at a game. But say, four "real" cops dedicated to each football game could have been enough of a presence to keep this from happening. As far as priorities being backwards, I think safety of the students and residents is priority number one for the City and the District, nothing backwards about that.

compton may be ghetto, but lakewood has it's faults too. i went to lakewood and live in the neighborhood where teen drinking parties with other narcotics and drugs were common. you say it like people from compton are a NUISANCE...do you live in compton? don't expect perfection from the lbusd, they are doing their best to find solutions NOW.
for everyone complaining on ALL THESE FORUMS directed for Melody's MEMORY, HOW ABOUT YOU GO ATTEND A LBUSD BOARD MEETING OR A COUNCIL MEETING TO VOICE YOUR OPINIONS, they are not being heard on this forum, I can tell you that and the last time I checked, those meetings were open to the public.
I commend the LBUSD and LBPD for all their tireless efforts in working through this investigation. I pray that the arrests will bring peace to the family in their closure with their daughters death. I also commend LB Poly for stepping up to the plate to support their rival school. That's what we must do, come together as a community, and help each other and those who were effected by this senseless tragedy.
So everyone who is coming onto these Press Telegram forums to complain, whine, and point fingers...just STOP. How about spreading some LOVE and COMPASSION for one another? Whether you are from COMPTON or LAKEWOOD or LONG BEACH, we ALL learned a very valuable lesson from the death of a young lady who was loved by many.
Maybe ACTS of RESPECT, LOVE, AND COMPASSION for our CHILDREN will influence them to make the right decisions in life, like to NOT join a gang or even THINK about getting a gun. If my son, who is 8 and attending a LBUSD school, ever even THINKS about doing any of that, i'd slap him with some act right ASAP.

To all the Gangs, thugs, friends of these thugs and their families, here is a message you can spread around, WE WON'T TOLERATE YOUR VIOLENCE IN OR AROUND OUR SCHOOLS AND CITY ANYMORE!!!!!! All of our Wilson students and parents and staff our watching every move around our schools, in fact we heard that there may be another shooting at Wilson today or soon to retaliate for those who came forward with information to the police, well guess what hundreds of our parents including myself called everybody lastnight letting them know, LBPD, LBUSD, PRESS TELEGRAM and all the news media that this threat is not being ignored and from now on you have thousands of people watching so BEWARE!!! To all you gang members our community will make your life a living hell we our sick of all your heartless and senseless killings and threats, the two 16 yr olds will and should be tried as adults that will be a living hell in itself.

Too bad you don't live in a real world, all the LBUSD schools have undesirable kids regardless of their residents, don't think lakewood is exempt from this. Wake up and realize this is not a time to point fingers or feel superior from one school to another. This is a time to pull together and demand something be done about adolescent gang activity for the good of all. You are very closed mind and selfish in your thinking, hopefully you'll see the big picture soon.

The LBUSD is one of the best it's record of numerous awards speaks for itself, the school distict is moving forward with alot of new security measures and I'm sure you will see alot of changes coming forth, the district funds have been cut by the millions thanks to our lovely Govenor who can't budget & balance if his life depended on it CA. is in a crisis people if you haven't noticed. We moved from Newport Harbor to Naples and are children now attend Wilson and I believe it to be one of the best schools around, we have never in the 6 yrs we have been here had any problems none!

UNDESIRABLE KIDS IN LBUSD, take your stupid baseless ignorant crap to another site, you idiot!!! Check your facts on how many of our wilson kids go to 4 yr universities and colleges vs. other large school districts! Check your facts before you speak cause you sound stupid. Most of all gangs in LBC in fact 96% are not enrolled in any of our schools they are drop outs, very few did attend their freshman yrs usually before they joined a gang. My best friend lives in Santa Monica/Venice you think we have a bad gang problem check theirs!

You are so right, as a mothers we need to all be involved, my kid came home talking about some rumors that were going around at school of threats and I got on that phone with everyone so fast and I attend local meetings as much as possible and am constantly calling the LBUSD and the city to voice my concerns and or suggestions, but we all need to do our part. FIGHT ON Parents!
