Female inmates surveyed
“We tend to focus on public safety and keeping dangerous people off the streets, but most of these women are low-level, non-violent offenders, and they come in over and over for crimes of survival.”
Female convicts in Santa Clara County are mostly the walking wounded - survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence, adults who drowned their untreated childhood trauma in methamphetamine and crack cocaine. via San Jose Mercury News
