'El Chapparito Bandit' linked to 15 robberies

The FBI and local law enforcement agencies are on the lookout Sunday for the "El Chapparito Bandit," a man whose weekend heist in Mira Mesa was his latest in a string of 15 bank robberies. The most recent robbery occurred Saturday about 2:30 p.m. when the suspect entered the Wells Fargo bank at 10707 Camino Ruiz, simulated a gun under his shirt with his thumb and forefinger and yelled "hands up everyone," FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said.

Trial ordered in tree trimmer's death

Executives of a La Mesa-based firm that buys and renovates homes for re-sale were ordered Friday to stand trial on charges of unemployment insurance fraud and failure to have workers' compensation insurance, but not for a violation of a safety standards count stemming from a fatal tree-trimming accident. David Scott Wolfe, 48, and his company, Three Frogs Inc., were charged earlier this year with a violation of OSHA standards in connection with the accident last Nov. 12 that killed Joshua Pudsey.

Former teacher accused of molesting children pleads not guilty

A former teacher at Dehesa Elementary School accused of molesting several children over a decade pleaded not guilty Friday to eight felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child. Anderson is suspected of abusing the victims while teaching the fourth and sixth grades, according to Jan Caldwell of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Accused North Park attacker eliminated as suspect in second assault

A 23-year-old man arrested this week on suspicion of carrying out a spree of sexual assaults in North Park over the last three months has been cleared of involvement in one of the crimes, authorities announced Friday. David Angelo Drake II of San Diego was taken into custody Monday evening and pleaded not guilty Thursday to 18 felony charges in connection with the series of attacks on women in neighborhoods near Balboa Park.

San Diego police are looking for suspects in the death of a man found shot in a Logan Heights alley. Several people called 911 around 10:23 p.m. Thursday, reporting shots fired near National Avenue and South 29th Street just east of Interstate 5. The victim was rushed to UCSD where he was later pronounced dead.
