One of the Romanian Cernavoda nuclear power plant's two reactors was shut down on Saturday due to a burst water pipe, the Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

Romania's only nuclear power plant at Cernavoda on the Danube River will go back in operation after experts fix a cracked water pipe, authorities said.

Currently, Romania has one operational NPP in Cernavoda. It produces about 18% of Romania's electricity demands.

Referring to Romania's energy strategy, Prime Minister Emil Boc stated yesterday that the intention is to use an energy mix for each of the energy production companies that will be created, underlining that in the end there will be only a small number of strong companies able to compete against similar EU companies.
