Single-family home sales in Jackson County soared 32.5 percent between May 1 and July 31, pushing the median price 10.5 percent higher than a year ago. The countywide median hit $237,500, up from $215,000, as 812 homes changed hands during the three-month period, compared to 613 a year ago, according to figures compiled by Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service. Lenders started 198 new foreclosure actions, up 80 percent from the same month a year ago, the Warren Group of Boston reported. Lenders also completed 98 foreclosures, up 75 percent from the same month last year, the Warren Group said. Comment?

New York City is poised to rein in landlords seeking to buy tenants out of rent-regulated apartments, a practice that has come under scrutiny in a roaring real-estate market. Saying that residents of the city's 1.3 million rent-restricted apartments are being pressured to move out, Mayor Bill de Blasio plans Thursday to sign legislation barring repeated buyout offers within six months if tenants don't want them. The number of El Paso homes with foreclosure filings increased 49 percent in the first seven months of the year compared to the same period in 2014, according to recently released data from RealtyTrac. Planning Board members at their Aug. 24 meeting peppered an environmental expert with questions about the remediation of contaminants on the property comprising the Apple Ridge Country Club and its possible impact on future homeowners. Kenneth N. Paul, of EcolSciences Inc. in Rockaway, reiterated that Apple Ridge Mahwah LLC, the applicant, was proposing to blend the top 2 feet to 3 feet of soil with clean soil over the entire property to dilute the contaminants and bring them within acceptable state-permitted levels.
