The Housing Opportunity Foundation presented 10 local nonprofits and nine area Habitat for Humanity stores with a total of $33,500 in donations last week to help fight unmet housing needs in the Charlotte area. For six years, the HOF, which is the charitable arm of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association , has been donating money annually to nonprofits, addressing housing needs in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties through a community grants program. A final judgment against Bank of America in a mortgage-bond lawsuit by the Securities and Exchange Commission was signed by a federal judge, helping clear the way for the lender to complete a $16.7 billion global settlement of claims it misled investors about risk. The judgment signed yesterday by U.S. District Judge Max O. Cogburn Jr. in Charlotte, North Carolina, bars Bank of America from using deceit or fraud to sell securities. Comment?
