Sept. 9, 2014 - Economic growth in North Carolina is expected to grow at a sluggish pace in 2015 with no significant growth expected for the remainder of 2014, UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton reported today in his quarterly forecast for the state. According to Connaughton, N.C. Gross State Product is expected to reach a level of $482.9 million in 2014, a real increase of 1.5 percent over the 2013 level. Comment?

Not only are big-pocketed borrowers paying lower average rates on the high dollar value loans known as jumbo mortgages, but lenders are now requiring even smaller down payments - and, in some cases, they are waiving the mortgage insurance, too. The Mortgage Bankers Association reports that the average rate on jumbo loans - mortgages of $417,000 or more - was 4.24% last week, compared with 4.36% for conventional 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages.
