When the 2015 legislative session began in January, many commonsense legislators arrived in Topeka knowing Kansas faced a major budget crisis. We acknowledged, along with a majority of Kansans, the undeniable fact that our financial problems were a direct result of a massive tax loophole passed in 2012 that allowed more than 330,000 Kansas businesses to avoid paying any state income taxes. A married couple from India living unlawfully for many years in McPherson has been arrested and charged in a 45-count federal indictment charging illegal employment of aliens, various kinds of fraud and making false claims of U.S. citizenship. A third defendant in the case is a business partner of the McPherson couple in the ownership of a Lawrence liquor store. Comment?

A married couple from India who themselves are unlawfully in the United States have been arrested on an indictment charging unlawful employment of aliens, document fraud, bank fraud and making false claims of U.S. citizenship. Arrested were Satishkumar "Sam" Patel, 47, and his wife, Daxaben S. Patel, 36, both of McPherson, who are in federal custody and scheduled to appear today in U.S. District Court in Wichita. Comment?

For all the tears and hyperbole, threats and posturing, deception and outright lying that preceded the final votes in this year's Legislature, one could surmise that something was actually accomplished. Postponing a problem, shoving it down the road doesn't qualify as an accomplishment. Comment?

While the one branch acquisition isn't a huge needle-mover for COB, it does symbolically move the long-term bull case for the bank forward. COB noted at Q4'14 reporting - having just done a large private placement, that it was going to be aggressive with M&A and expansion opportunities heading into 2015. Comment?

I continue to remain amazed that CBSH continues to have the share price stability it does when offering investors near nothing of value. In a previous article I opined that CBSH wasn't competitive in its peer group from a yield or total return standpoint let alone when actively scanning all of regional banking. Comment?
