The temperature outside may be cooling, but Savannah-area home sales are still fairly hot, according to the latest data from local market tracking company Savannah Multi-List Corp. A total of 463 units sold in September in Bryan, Effingham and Chatham counties, an increase of 15 percent over the year. The number brings to a close a benchmark summer after three consecutive months of unit sales higher than 500. Comment?

In the Savannah area, 14.6 percent, or 8,052, of all residential properties with a mortgage were in negative equity as of the second quarter of 2014 compared to 18.5 percent, or 10,116 properties, in the first quarter of 2014, according to CoreLogic, a property information provider. The CoreLogic report indicated an additional 5.4 percent, or 3,006 residential properties, in metro Savannah were in near negative equity for the second quarter of 2014 compared to 6.0 percent, or 3,254, in the first quarter of 2014. United Community Bank will add five staffers based in Savannah to its mortgage services division for coastal Georgia, bank officials announced Tuesday. Adam Hart will join the bank as vice president, regional sales manager to lead the mortgage team and focus on increasing service to the Brunswick, Savannah, St. Simmons and surrounding areas, according to the announcement. With temperatures still sweltering, the local real estate market is wrapping up its busy summer season with a sprint to the finish as home sales broke 500 for a third straight month. About 504 homes sold last month in Bryan, Chatham and Effingham counties, four less than July and 19 less than the year before, but still breaking the benchmark, according to latest data from the Savannah Multi-List Corp. "This is the first time we've had three consecutive months with sales over 500," said Jennifer Scroggs, president of the Savannah Area Realtors. Comment?
