The number of El Paso County homes in some stage of foreclosure increased 12.7 percent in the first quarter compared to the same quarter last year, RealtyTrac reported Thursday. El Paso had 506 homes with foreclosure filings in the January-March quarter -- an increase of 57 homes from a year ago. Comment?

With a Feb. 2 deadline looming, thousands of El Pasoans have yet to pay their property taxes, according to city tax officials. Nationwide home prices are now within 10 percent of their pre-crash peaks and seven states have surpassed those peaks, some have been establishing new high marks for several months. I am a believer in dreams, and when I had a waking dream a few days after the S&P downgrade of our national debt of President Obama packing his bags and leaving the White House, I was saddened for him and for my country. The regulator of mortgage finance firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could allow them to raise the pay of their chief executives in order to keep and attract talent at the government-controlled entities, company officials said on Tuesday. Pay hikes at the top of the two firms are opposed by the U.S. Treasury on grounds that taxpayers continue to backstop the two firms after the government bailed them out in 2008 during the financial crisis.
