As home prices and rents continue to soar faster in the Seattle area than just about anywhere else in the nation, the city and its neighbors have set new highs for housing costs. Seattle's median single-family home cost $666,500 in June, easily beating out the record set in February, according to figures released Wednesday by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. Comment?

Seattle-area home prices are continuing their torrid pace, setting another record and rising faster than any major city other than Portland, new data shows. The monthly S&P/Case-Shiller Index released Tuesday showed single-family house prices across the Seattle metro area rose 10.7 percent in April compared with a year ago, about the same as the annual rise reported last month. About 80 percent of the homes coming on the market in King and Snohomish counties are selling within the first 30 days. Just as expected, the month of May had an uptick in new listings , but just as many buyers made offers on homes during the month to keep inventory depleted, according to the latest figures from Northwest Multiple Listing Service that covers 23 counties in the state.
