Washington's program that allows parents to pay in advance for college tuition credits is on hold for the next two years, thrown into turmoil by the dropping cost of college. The Guaranteed Education Tuition Program, or GET, allows families to buy credits years before their kids are ready for college, locking them in at current rates. Comment?

A renter needs to earn more than $27 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Seattle without being cost-burdened, meaning they are spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing. Each year, the National Low Income Housing Coalition crunches the numbers to determine how much it costs to afford housing in every county in the United States, based on data from the U.S. Department of Urban Development. The U.S. unemployment rate fell to a seven-year low in August as employers added a modest 173,000 jobs, a key piece of evidence for the Federal Reserve in deciding whether to raise interest rates from record lows later this month. The Labor Department said Friday that the jobless rate fell to 5.1 percent - a level consistent with a normal economy and the lowest since April 2008 - from 5.3 percent in July. Comment?

Home prices in the Greater Toronto Area soared nearly 10 per cent in August, a month that saw buyers flocking to more affordable homes and condos in the suburbs. Sales across the region rose 5.7 per cent last month compared to the same period last year, the Toronto Real Estate Board said, as the average average price for a detached house in Toronto jumped almost 13 per cent to $1,017,652.
