Rent remains high for residents in Washington, where minimum-wage workers need to work two full-time jobs to afford a two-bedroom apartment Minimum-wage workers across Washington cannot afford market-rate housing without working more than one job, according to a report the National Low Income Housing Coalition published in May. NLIHC releases an annual report titled "Out of Reach," that examines whether local minimum wages of U.S. workers are adequate to pay rents all around the country. By looking at national numbers and at each state separately, the report provides detailed information about the housing situation and the sufficiency of minimum wages in the United States. Comment?

About 80 percent of the homes coming on the market in King and Snohomish counties are selling within the first 30 days. Just as expected, the month of May had an uptick in new listings , but just as many buyers made offers on homes during the month to keep inventory depleted, according to the latest figures from Northwest Multiple Listing Service that covers 23 counties in the state. Although the City Council has declared a housing emergency because of rapidly rising rents and home prices, it is approving a series of measures that will increase the cost of new home construction - most in the name of building more affordable housing.
