Calhoun County, Ala., in 2016 had the fewest mortgage foreclosures and the most home sales since a decade ago, before the Great Recession hit. The county and much of the U.S. struggled with high foreclosure rates in the years after the Great Recession, which depressed home prices and sales. Comment?

The median price and number of houses sold last quarter remained stable for St. Lawrence and Lewis counties, while the number went up in Jefferson County compared to first quarter sales in 2016. The first-quarter median price for homes increased from the same time last year in Jefferson County by $7,325, or 6.4 percent, from $114,500 in 2015 to $121,825, according to the Jefferson-Lewis Board of Realtors.
