Home construction in New Jersey has started strong this year, as builders took out almost 25 percent more building permits in January compared with the same period a year ago. Multifamily construction continued to drive the housing revival, accounting for 57 percent of January's permits, down slightly from 61 percent for all of 2014. Comment?

Statewide commercial property foreclosures declined 14 percent last year to 1,014, the fewest since 2008, when they totaled 875, according to the latest statistics from the New Jersey Judiciary's Office of Foreclosure. In Bergen and Passaic counties, there were 66 and 56 foreclosure filings, respectively, on commercial properties in 2014. Comment?

After treading water in 2014, New Jersey home prices will get a boost from low mortgage rates and an improving job market this year, appraiser Jeffrey Otteau predicted Tuesday. Otteau, an East Brunswick appraiser whose forecasts are widely followed in the real estate industry, expects home values to rise about 3.5 percent this year, compared with an anemic 1.4 percent in 2014.
