There's an organization home-based out of Stafford helping build homes, hope and opportunities for families to help themselves, and they've just been given a boost to continue that effort in Fort Bend. The TriCity Business Alliance presented a $7,500 check last week to Sherwin Sun, who heads the Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity. Comment?

I am a believer in dreams, and when I had a waking dream a few days after the S&P downgrade of our national debt of President Obama packing his bags and leaving the White House, I was saddened for him and for my country. But the great thing about dreams, if they are truly predictive, is that they give you time to change the future, and I'm going to try doing that with this advice. Comment?

Although the rise in both sales and prices might suggest housing affordability is not yet a problem in Texas, Jim Gaines, research economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, warns the price category for potential buyers is becoming an issue, particularly for those with low or medium household income. "If you're a low-to-medium-income household, you're probably having difficulty finding a home in the price range you're looking for," Gaines says. Comment?

Lloyds Banking Group Plc took a larger-than expected 1.4 billion-pound charge for improperly sold loan insurance, threatening to undermine dividend plans. The latest provision was 400 million pounds higher than what analysts at Sanford C. Bernstein and Morgan Stanley estimated, pushing the total set aside to 13.4 billion pounds, a record among British lenders. Comment?

Bank of Ireland has reported underlying profit before tax of 743m for the six months to the end of June, which was more than double the figure reported at the same time last year. Richie Boucher, CEO of Bank of Ireland said the strength of sterling had helped but he said the impact was really from growth in both economies. Comment?
