Lower unemployment, bankruptcies and foreclosures in March reduced the nation's economic stress to its lowest point this year, according to The Associated Press' monthly analysis of conditions around the country. More than 85 percent of the nation's 3,141 counties and every state but two - Louisiana and South Dakota - enjoyed better conditions in March than in February, the AP's Economic Stress Index showed. Some mortgage customers of State-owned Permanent TSB have been informed that the majority of the money they are owed from the bank's failure to offer them a cheap tracker rate over the past decade is being applied to paying off their loan arrears. This is part of the financial redress scheme that PTSB put in place recently relating to its "failure" to offer a tracker interest rate for some 1,370 mortgage account holders who came off fixed rates from 2006 onwards, says the Irish Times. The wealthy real-estate developer charged with DWI in the crash that killed his pal in the Hamptons dragged the victim out of the car - and then tossed his wallet into the woods after fleeing the scene in his Porsche, sources said Tuesday. Cops believe Hamptons real-estate agent Paul Hansen, who was not wearing his seat belt, was "partially ejected" from the car during the Sunday wreck and that developer Sean Ludwick, 42, pulled him the rest of the way out, a law-enforcement source said.
