Yavapai County Assessor Pamela Pearsall is asking the Arizona Attorney General to overturn a county Board of Supervisors' decision to remove two divisions from her office, calling it a "constitutional overreach," with the support of 13 of the state's 15 county assessors. Pearsall sent Attorney General Mark Brnovich a letter signed by the other assessors on Friday, June 26, explaining that the board created a new department made up largely of Title and Cartography employees that were previously under her control. The lingering effects of the Great Recession and housing bust have altered homeownership in the nation - a change likely to ripple through the housing market for years to come, according to a recent study conducted by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Because of a lack of jobs, slow income growth and other financial factors - including the weight of student and other debt, homeownership continues to lose steam, sales of existing homes are lagging and single-family construction is at near historic lows, according to the report called the "State of the Nation's Housing." U.S. businesses added jobs at a robust pace in June, a private survey found, evidence that rising consumer spending and a healthy housing market are supporting more hiring.
