Home foreclosures are down to the lowest level in more than decade in Ohio and across the nation, but the Dayton area in 2016 still ranked as one of the highest in the nation for foreclosure activity. Ohio had the ninth highest foreclosure rate in the country last year, but it's below the one percent threshold for all households, something Daren Blomquist, senior vice president for Attom Data Solutions - the Irvine, Calif.-based real estate data provider, called "an important milestone." Even as housing is becoming more affordable in the United States, housing in Lucas County has become less affordable compared with historic norms, according to a new report by real estate data firm RealtyTrac Inc. In its second quarter home affordability index, released Thursday, Lucas County scored a 98, down from 101 a year ago and also down from 113 in the first quarter. The report analyzed median home prices from recorded sales. Comment?

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio doesn't think Steve Mnuchin misled the Senate when the treasury nominee maintained that his bank had not engaged in "robo-signing." That's despite court documents showing dozens of instances in Ohio alone, reported by The Dispatch, and a sworn statement from one of Mnuchin's OneWest vice presidents that she regularly engaged in the practice, in which mortgage-foreclosure papers are rapidly signed despite attestations that the documents had been examined. Bovis Homes Group PLC rattled investors on Monday, warning that it expects to build 10% to 15% fewer homes in the U.K. this year after missing last year's profit target, while saying it would fund the 2017 dividend partly through asset sales. Bovis reported a 3% fall in pretax profit to 154.7 million pounds from GBP160.1 million in the year ended Dec. 31., below the lower GBP160 million end of management's forecast range, on a 11% rise in revenue.
