Most real estate markets harbor at least some rural clients within a 20-mile radius of large or even medium-sized urban areas and cities. Representing a seller or buyer of rural property should not warrant handing over a referral fee to another agent who"specializes" in rural properties. Comment?

Even as housing is becoming more affordable in the United States, housing in Lucas County has become less affordable compared with historic norms, according to a new report by real estate data firm RealtyTrac Inc. In its second quarter home affordability index, released Thursday, Lucas County scored a 98, down from 101 a year ago and also down from 113 in the first quarter. The report analyzed median home prices from recorded sales. Comment?

Home sales jumped in the Buckeye State and across the nation during March, as buyers - apparently undeterred by rising prices - pounced faster. Ohio sales of new and previously owned houses and condos were up 6.3 percent last month from a year before, based on seasonally adjusted, annualized data. Comment?

Foreclosure filings - described as default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions - in the first quarter of this year were down 45% in the Columbus area compared with the average over the seven quarters that led up to the recession, which began in December 2007. Foreclosure filings were down 59% in Cleveland, 45% in Toledo, 38% in Dayton, 36% in Akron and 28% in Cincinnati. Comment?

After big pushback to proposed regulations last year , the City Council is ready to consider a revised set of rules for people who rent short-term via Airbnb , VRBO , and similar services, as well as potential bed-and-breakfast operators. The legislation would establish a new definition for "short-term rental" as a type of lodging use and establish standards for short-term rentals, including a limit on the number of dwelling units that an individual may operate as a short-term rental.
