A Monday afternoon post on the store's Facebook page from Sheila Genter, the store's manager, announced that the store was, indeed, closed and thanked customers for their loyalty and help in the last week. Not much is publicly known in the case of the disappearance of the owner of the store, Vaughn Flewelling, other than he did not open the store last Monday and then was tracked out of state by Mason County Sheriff's Office detectives and police in Muskegon County. SmartZones were first promoted nearly 15 years ago as high-tech business development vehicles, but the wheels have come off Muskegon's SmartZone that is costing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars a year as plans for a casino remain stalled. The Muskegon Lake-front SmartZone was one of 11 unveiled in Michigan in 2001 as designated areas to stimulate the growth of technology-based businesses. Comment?

The City of Roosevelt Park will celebrate its history and inspire community pride when it hosts the annual Roosevelt Park Day celebration Saturday, Aug. 22. Although the municipality became a city on Oct. 7, 1946 with the formal adoption of its charter, residents began celebrating the city's anniversary during the summer event since 1981, according to Muskegon Chronicle archives. The community's history begins with real estate agent Leon H. Lambert and land developer M.J. Riordan, who convinced officials from CWC Textron to dedicate a square mile of the foundry's leftover property in Norton Township for a residential subdivision in 1925. Comment?
