A renter needs to earn more than $27 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Seattle without being cost-burdened, meaning they are spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing. Each year, the National Low Income Housing Coalition crunches the numbers to determine how much it costs to afford housing in every county in the United States, based on data from the U.S. Department of Urban Development.
