Desperate house hunters having a hard time finding move-up homes in Seminole County are in luck, as Meritage Homes is planning to build a new gated community near Oviedo. Meritage Homes reportedly has a 13.3-acre site on Tuskawilla Road just north of Aloma Avenue under contract to purchase, where it wants to build Tuscawilla Estates, a 31-lot gated single-family home community. Comment?

Orlando home prices have almost doubled from the bottom of the market four years ago but remain far from the peak prices of 2007, a new report shows. The median price for a house in the core Orlando market, which includes mostly Orange and Seminole counties, was $181,900 in May - that was up 10 percent from a year earlier and 4 percent from a month earlier, according to a report released Monday by Orlando Regional Realtors Association. Buyers who purchased houses last month in the core Orlando market, which is mostly Orange and Seminole counties, had the biggest price discount in three years. Sales prices in April were less than 95 percent of the asking price; a month earlier they were just 96.8 percent of the asking price, according to a new report and data from Orlando Regional Realtor Association.
